Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek (15 Days)

Embark on the ultimate Himalayan wilderness expedition. Circling Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m)—the world’s 7th highest peak—this challenging camping trek journeys from lush subtropical valleys, past remote Magar villages, and deep into glaciated alpine passes far beyond teahouse routes.

     

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Pokhara to Darbang (1,110 m)
    Drive from Pokhara through Beni along the Myagdi Khola to Darbang, the trail's starting point.
  • Day 2: Darbang to Dharapani (1,560 m)
    Trek through terraced fields, oak forests, and traditional Magar villages.
  • Day 3: Dharapani to Muri (1,850 m)
    Ascend gradually with opening views of Mt. Gurja and the Dhaulagiri massif.
  • Day 4: Muri to Boghara / Bagar (2,080 m)
    Descend to the Myagdi Khola before climbing to the last permanent settlement on the route.
  • Day 5: Boghara to Dobhan (2,520 m)
    Leave human habitations behind into dense sub-alpine bamboo and rhododendron forests.
  • Day 6: Dobhan to Sallaghari (3,110 m)
    Climb through tall pine forests along the steep Myagdi River gorge.
  • Day 7: Sallaghari to Italian Base Camp (3,660 m)
    Emerge above the tree line directly beneath the towering west face of Mt. Dhaulagiri I.
  • Day 8: Acclimatization Day at Italian Base Camp (3,660 m)
    Rest and take a short acclimatization hike toward the glacier to prepare for higher altitudes.
  • Day 9: Italian Base Camp to Glacier Camp (4,210 m)
    Trek across terminal moraines and onto the lateral ice of the Chhonbardan Glacier.
  • Day 10: Glacier Camp to Dhaulagiri Base Camp (4,750 m)
    Reach base camp set on the glacier ice, surrounded by 360-degree views of Dhaulagiri I–IV.
  • Day 11: Dhaulagiri Base Camp to Hidden Valley (5,140 m) via French Pass (5,360 m)
    Cross the highest point at French Pass into the stark, uninhabited alpine plateau of Hidden Valley.
  • Day 12: Reserve / Exploration Day in Hidden Valley (5,140 m)
    Contingency day for high-altitude weather or optional exploration around the valley.
  • Day 13: Hidden Valley to Yak Kharka (3,680 m) via Dhampus Pass (5,240 m)
    Cross Dhampus (Thapa) Pass with sweeping views of the Annapurna range before a long descent.
  • Day 14: Yak Kharka to Marpha / Jomsom (2,670 m)
    Descend into the Kali Gandaki Valley to the stone-paved streets and apple orchards of Marpha or Jomsom.
  • Day 15: Jomsom to Pokhara
    Take a short morning flight or drive through the Kali Gandaki Gorge back to Pokhara.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Pokhara to Jomsom (2,720 m) & Trek to Kagbeni (2,800 m)
    Fly or drive to Jomsom and walk along the Kali Gandaki riverbed to Kagbeni, the entry gateway to Upper Mustang.
  • Day 2: Kagbeni to Chele (3,050 m)
    Enter Upper Mustang via red sandstone cliffs and cross the Kali Gandaki River to Chele.
  • Day 3: Chele to Syangboche / Gheli (3,570 m)
    Ascend over high mountain passes (Taklam La, Dajong La) with views of Mustang’s arid landscape.
  • Day 4: Syangboche to Charang (3,560 m)
    Trek past ancient chortens, mani walls, and the historic fortress village of Charang.
  • Day 5: Charang to Lo Manthang (3,840 m)
    Reach the walled capital of the ancient Kingdom of Lo, exploring medieval gompas and royal palaces.
  • Day 6: Exploration Day at Lo Manthang (3,840 m)
    Rest day to explore the Chhoser cave complex, ancient monasteries, and traditional Tibetan culture.
  • Day 7: Lo Manthang to Yara (3,650 m)
    Leave the main trail eastwards into remote desert terrain, descending to the gorge village of Yara.
  • Day 8: Yara to Luri Cave Gompa / Ghuma Thanti (4,600 m)
    Visit the famous 14th-century Luri Cave Gompa before ascending into uninhabited high country.
  • Day 9: Ghuma Thanti to Damodar Kunda (4,890 m)
    Trek over remote plateau ridges to the sacred high-altitude lakes of Damodar Kunda.
  • Day 10: Damodar Kunda to High Camp / Namta Khola (4,890 m)
    Move deeper into glaciated terrain towards the base of Saribung Pass Click to open side panel for more information .
  • Day 11: High Camp to Saribung Base Camp (4,950 m)
    Set up base camp on moraine lateral to the glacier, surrounded by ice peaks.
  • Day 12: Acclimatization & Skill Check at Base Camp (4,950 m)
    Rest and practice basic rope/crampon techniques for the glacier pass crossing.
  • Day 13: Base Camp over Saribung Pass (6,020 m) to Nagoru (4,400 m)

  • Day 14: Nagoru to Phu Village (4,080 m)
    Trek down into the ancient, secluded stone village of Phu in the Nar-Phu Valley.
  • Day 15: Phu Village to Meta (3,560 m)
    Descend along narrow canyon gorges past abandoned Tibetan refugee settlements.
  • Day 16: Meta to Koto (2,600 m)
    Walk down through pine and rhododendron forests to join the main Annapurna Circuit at Koto.
  • Day 17: Koto / Dharapani to Pokhara
    Drive by jeep through Besisahar and back to Pokhara.

 The Teri La Pass Camping Trek is one of Nepal’s rarest and most challenging wilderness traverses. Connecting the isolated Nar-Phu Valley with the ancient Forbidden Kingdom of Upper Mustang, this expedition crosses the formidable Teri La Pass (5,595 m). Because it traverses entirely uninhabited desert canyons and high plateaus for nearly 

 The Teri La Pass Camping Trek is one of Nepal’s rarest and most challenging wilderness traverses. Connecting the isolated Nar-Phu Valley with the ancient Forbidden Kingdom of Upper Mustang, this expedition crosses the formidable Teri La Pass (5,595 m). Because it traverses entirely uninhabited desert canyons and high plateaus for nearly a week, a full wilderness camping operation is strictly required. 

 

Day-by-Day Itinerary

  • Day 1: Pokhara / Kathmandu to Besisahar & Drive to Koto (2,600 m)
    Drive along the Marsyangdi River gorge into Koto, the official entry checkpoint for the restricted Nar-Phu region. 
  • Day 2: Koto to Meta (3,560 m)
    Leave the Annapurna Circuit to enter the narrow canyon of Nar-Phu Khola, ascending through pine forests to Meta. 
  • Day 3: Meta to Phu Village (4,080 m)
    Trek through barren canyon landscapes past ancient ruined fortresses to reach the remote stone village of Phu.
  • Day 4: Phu Village to Nar Phedi / Nar Village (4,110 m)
    Cross the gorge and ascend to Nar Village, a ancient high-altitude Buddhist settlement untouched by modern roads.
  • Day 5: Acclimatization Day at Nar Village (4,110 m)
    Rest and explore the village gompas while acclimatizing before entering the uninhabited high valley. 
  • Day 6: Nar Village to Lapse Kharka / Dharamshala (4,500 m)
    Wilderness camping begins. Ascend along the uninhabited Lapse Khola valley into true wilderness. 
  • Day 7: Lapse Kharka to High Camp / Pokhari (5,150 m)
    Trek deeper into glaciated alpine country toward the base of the pass, pitching tents on glacial moraine.
  • Day 8: High Camp to Teri La Base Camp (5,350 m)
    Short, crucial climb to the high base camp beneath the pass to prepare for the heavy crossing.
  • Day 9: Teri La Base Camp over Teri La Pass (5,595 m) to Pasphu Khola (4,745 m)
    The crux of the trek: cross the high, windswept Teri La Pass (5,595 m) with views of Tibet and descend into Mustang’s eastern badlands.
  • Day 10: Pasphu Khola to Yakpa / Bhedi Kharka (4,315 m)
    Trek down high-altitude shepherd valleys, crossing river tributaries in complete isolation. 
  • Day 11: Yakpa to Tangge (3,240 m)
    Descent finishes at the striking, red-cliff village of Tangge, rejoining the trails of Upper Mustang. 
  • Day 12: Tangge to Yara (3,650 m)
    Traverse eroded desert plateaus and badlands to reach Yara, near the ancient Luri Cave Monastery. 
  • Day 13: Yara to Lo Manthang (3,840 m)
    Cross the Kali Gandaki tributary rivers to enter the historic, walled capital of the Kingdom of Lo. 
  • Day 14: Exploration Day in Lo Manthang (3,840 m)
    Visit ancient royal palaces, centuries-old monasteries, and the Sky Caves of Chhoser. 
  • Day 15: Lo Manthang to Charang / Ghemi (3,560 m)
    Begin heading south through Mustang’s iconic red cliffs, chortens, and the longest mani wall in the region. 
  • Day 16: Ghemi to Chele / Kagbeni (2,810 m)
    Trek or jeep down through wind-carved canyons back toward the entry gates of Mustang.
  • Day 17: Kagbeni to Jomsom & Drive/Flight to Pokhara
    Reach Jomsom and fly or take a scenic drive down the Kali Gandaki Gorge back to Pokhara.
